So I am thinking of making my single wheel 2500 to a DRW and not changing the axles. Arrowcraft seems to be really nice people. I will be replacing the bed with a custom built flat bed and prolly go with some 19. 5 wheels. Any suggestions, pics, problems encountered are other companies that make the spacers would be appreciated. Basically any info that could make my swap easier and any info about the companies quality of parts would be helpful.

Thanks!

Cody

TDR member JHawes did that conversion using a Ram 3500 rear axle a couple years ago. PM him or search for his old posts.

Thanks, good to know. Am I correct to assume that with using these spacers with the original rear end, which is wider than one from a 3500, the outside rear tires would stick out past the edge of the factory 3500 rear fenders?

Steve

Are you sure? I haven't gone back through the old emails about this kind of swap, but I'm pretty sure the 3500's rear end is a few inches narrower than the 2500's.

Steve

The factory 3500 rear end housing is narrower but spaced out at the ends so total ends up being a little wider than the 2500 factory rear end. After the conversion there wont be alot of difference between the 2.

Did this same conversion last year to an 04 I had. I highly recommend the arrowcraft kit. The kit I got converted to Ford bolt pattern wheels instead of Dodge because the wheels were cheaper. Something to look into if you go the arrowcraft route. The best thing about the Arrowcraft conversion is that its as simple and takes about as long as changing the tires.

WMoroni,

Thanks for the info. Any other aspects of the Arrowcraft conversion you did that you could share would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

I did the Arrowcraft conversion to a 1988 Ford F-250, it turned out very good, they used a 2" spacer there also. I still have that Ford truck, use it almost daily, never had any problems with the Arrowcraft kit.

If you go to the Arrowcraft kit on your Dodge, you will have to use their wheels, the wheel studs are the same pattern, but a different (larger) diameter. A fellow in California also makes spacers for our trucks, he too uses a larger wheel stud, and tells you that you have to either drill out your factory wheels or get new ones. Both of these spacer kits are hub centric and the same pattern, just larger diameter wheel studs.

CD,

Thanks again. I'm going to look into this, as I expect (some day) to upgrade to a larger 5th wheel toyhauler, and will need my truck to be a DRW. I really can't bear the thought of trading in my truck, as it's done just superbly for me so far. Where are you at in NM?

Steve

Hey Steve.

I am in Capitan. When I decided to go DRW with my Mega, I just swapped rear axles with another Mega owner that wanted to go SRW. Our trucks were different colors, so he got my fender flares and I got his Mega fenders, bot of us did a little painting . .

I have a bnib front and rear set of the spacers that arrowcraft uses for their dually setup, bought them thinking that I would just go with the spacers, then the swap came about. I'd sell them if you are interested.

The best thing about the arrowcraft conversion is it is super easy. Literally less than an hour and your driving a dually. Of course that doesnt count bolting on the flares or changing the bed. I been thinking about the truck I did and I'm certain it ended up about 2 inches wider than a factory dually. I put a CM flatbed on mine and the wheels were still well inside the edge of the bed.
