Mom and I got a neat little 22' Thor "Chateau" TT with the torsion suspension. How beneficial would a friction stabilizer be. The one with the ball mounts, Some guys at work say don't go without it... opinions please.
I don't know about a 22' TT but I can tell you that there's no way that I'd pull my 35' TT without one. On a recent trip one of the clips fell out and the friction stabilizer was only connected at one end (the truck end). It was a WILD ride! It was the first time I'd towed the trailer without the fresh water tank being full (35 gallons at the very front of the trailer) and for a while I thought maybe the difference in tongue weight was why the trailer was swaying. When a Chevy CAVALIER (little car) passed me and got the trailer swaying I knew something was wrong! Pulled into the next rest area and found the stabilizer disconnected. Luckily I had my safety wire pliers and safety wire with me to rig it up to get me to my destination.
I use the heavy-duty trailer sway control by Reese in conjunction with weight distribution bars by Reese also. All of this hardware is found on page 233 of the Camping World 2001 master catalog. I pulled home from Winnemucca, Nevada to Idaho Falls, Idaho yesterday and had headwinds, tailwinds, side gusts and passed many a semi in CTD style. The hitch system?-- Wouldn't leave home without it. Never, Never, nope, just won't do it!!!
