I used to have a single 5 in mitre cut stack, but it got to be to loud. I could not hear my 5 yr old son talking to me from the back seat. When I fabbed the exhaust I did not use elbows, I cut the pipe at 45's and welded them together. We really miss the stack (my son and I, not my wife and daughter). I am thinking that the 45's created a lot of turbulence so the flow was not smooth, creating a very loud situation. I realize stack(s) are loud but does it make sense that using elbows would be quieter?

Mine has alot of 45's and is quiet, and its right behind me (reg cab) the drone is killer if there is no way to muffle it. My twins absolutely killed the drone, but if they arent in your budget, try strapping a long piece of angle Iron to the straight part of the exhaust under the truck with hose clamps, it has worked for some, let us know what you figure out.

Twins really knock the sound down, but kinda an expensive muffler! :-laf

Add a muffler to the mix and I bet its much more reasonable.

My exhaust did not have any bends, they were cut and welded at 45's. I figured a smooth exhaust flows better so it maybe quieter also. My truck currently has 4 in d-pipe into 5 in exiting behind the tire (similar to stock). It has 2 slight bends, at d-pipe and rear axle, other than that it is straight. My brother still has stock exhaust (minus cat & muff). His is alot louder than mine, I assume because my flow is smoother. A muffler really is not an option :D . I'll probably do the stack shortly so I will report my findings!

Thanks, Damon

Here is mine: we used all 5" with mandrell bent elbows and it is still loud as heck, so I think that the 45's had not much to do with it being too loud. I believe Bobcat698 has some sort of a muffler on his(check out his sig) and claims they arent that loud. I might go this route as well.

I'd like to know more about these also. Checked their website but would like to hear from some one that has used them.

I am also VERY interested in these as well. Any 'real world' info would be great. Anyone that has them can you please PM me? Thanks

stacks

I ran dual 5" stacks unmuffled for 2yrs. It did drone on the highway. Once I started pulling a 38ft 5er I HAD to put a muffler in it. Ordered a 4" aluminized Flowmaster (all baffled) from summit & put it in line under the cab. Made a decent difference. She still barks around town , but when under FULL load not terrible. --Proflow

If you go to www.blackclouddiesel.com they have "mufflers" that go in stacks. They knock the sound down, but I don't know how much.

I'm running these internal mufflers in my stacks and they help a little bit. They run about $80-$90 dollars for a set. They are only about 15" tall and they work best with 5" stacks. They say they have internals for 5, 6 and 7" stacks, but its the same one for all. Didn't make a difference on my 6" turnouts, but much better with my 5" miters. I'm thinking about ordering another set and weldingtwo of them together to make a longer internal. I think that would help.

Was it too loud when you started pulling? Would the cops getcha for the noise?

Never had a problem w/the cops. I think theyr'e busy looking @ the blk smoke. The drone was way bad when pulling. --Proflow
