stack out the hood?

i been thinkin bout redoin the exhaust on my truck and most of the trucks round here just run it under all the way back... so i was thinkin bout runnin mine out the hood just to be different i have seen it on the 2nd gen pullin trucks so im just wantin to know if anybody has done this on a 1st gen and if so duz anybody have any pics of it done like this? and also how loud would it be like this? or am i better off just runnin a set of stacks in the bed?

yeah im not sure if its street legal or not and i dont think it would pass inspection but who knows so thats why before i run it like that i will find a hood to cut up and keep the one i have now so if i have to i can run it back under the truck and just put the hood i have now back on and be good as new.

This has been asked in the past. Of course this would not be street legal as the exhaust must exit behind the area ocupied by the occupants (the cab in our case)

It may sound wierd but I've seen a truck in Milwaukee WI with his stack running straight out his passenger wheel well. It appeared to run out tight to the top and then straight up. I wouldn't suggest doing something like this unless thats the look you really want. It didn't look all that great but he was on the street, legal or not. my only thoughts are what about having the passenger whindow down.

I never had any trouble running my stack out the hood. I don't think there is a law that says it is wrong. I would do it.

Ct has the requirement that Greeleaf mentioned... must exit past the passenger compartment.

I work regular like with the Ohio State Highway patrol and I know for this state it's not legal. We have to have the exhaust just right on a school bus and the same would apply to vehicles. They also conduct road side inspections. One thing they ticket for is cracked windshild and a tail pipe that does not exit from behind the vehicle compartment. Itmust also exit out and way from the compartment. Termination of the tail pipe under the bed of a truck is also not legal. It must protude out from the vehicle.



Stacks meet this qualification.



The school bus qualification are much mnore strict. The tail pipe must terminate at the edge of the bus body. Not passt it. Not before it. They use a two x four as a make shift straight edge. The very end of the pipe must be perfectly in alighnment with the body.



The law for Ohio isn't much different from state to state. In terms of passenger vehicles, I imagine that they are all alike in regards to exhaust placement and tail lamps etc. etc.

i still want to try it but maybe i sould just run 5" or 6"stacks in the bed cuz i dont really want any trouble with the law or tryin to pass the inspection... got pulled over one time by a TX state trooper and they told me to get a real plate put on the front of my truck i never had any other cop tell me that so i never did take the John Deere one off

I have a friend who is a member here (moremph) he's a ford guy through and through. He has a 93? F-350 Crew Cab 4x4 5spd with a 3" stack dead even with the hood. You cannot see it unless he makes it smoke! Although the passenger cab light is stained :-laf



He has passed KY inspection no prob... ... although he had to tell them where the exhaust was! :-laf
