Stack size?

What size stacks sound the best? Do smaller diameter stack sound bad or tinny compared to large stacks?

7" stacks

I had 7" mitre cut stacks on my '02 I had and they sounded awsome. I Kind of miss my '02 just because it was so cool to listen to the sound coming out of the stacks.

Trumpet or Tuba TJ?... Larger I. D. will darken the tone. Turbos affect the sound too.

Exactly, I had 5in on mine and it sounded just like a big rig.

I have 5" stacks and IMO, look and sound just right. :-laf

6" mitercuts with a 5" inlet sound pretty good on any Cummins IMO.

like said trumpet and tuba mine sound real low and LOUD its the kind of noise that shakes the ground and vibrates through your body. personaly i love them though the others sound real good too. ive heard a truck that had 2 three inch stacks and it sounded real good sitting between them was like sitting between big rig stacks. mine are just a fair amount deeper and a whole lot louder

6" mitres have a good sound on my truck. Especially when running straight pipe. Sounded great for arounf town, but on the highway they got rude loud. The 4" walker muffler I put on toned them down quite a bit. But they still have a good throaty sound. I particularly love going through the tunnels here in Norfolk and getting on the gas, the resonance on the overhead is sweet!:-laf

Here is how it was explained to me by a fellow TDR member when I asked what the differences are. His truck when you see it always has a different size stack top on it and I was befuddled why he did it all the time,besides screwing with other members,LOL.



The larger diameters change the tone from a sharper,less bellowing tone of a 4" to the much deeper and bellowing 8" & 12" stacks. Another thing he told me was how the smoke rolls out differently. Smaller 4" stacks will shoot the smoke higher in the air and the larger you go the less height you will get.



After telling me that I decided he had way too much time on his hands if he was researching smoke flight patterns with his Cummins,LOL..... Andy
