2006 3500 transmission shift problem

Oil Pump Failed? Munching turbos...

I recently purchased a 2006 2500 4x4 which came with a Banks Bullet. While this does not seem to be the most popular programmer, I am reasonably satisfied with it (+hp is reasonable and gauge options are nice). I have read that it only effects fuel and does not advance the timing so I am thinking I could get 1-2mpg improvement if I stacked it with another programmer (e. g. Edge MileageMax or Quadzilla Max Milage).

Has anyone tried this with success?

thx

First, Welcome to TDR!

I am not familiar with a Banks Bullit, is it really a downloader, or just a fueling box? In other words, does it download a program into your ecm, or just install in the wiring harness to manipulate the signals?

Never stack two downloaders, you would be asking for a failed/corrupt ecm. You have to be careful anytime you stack multiple boxes or programmers and boxes, too much timing/pressure... and melted pistons or worse.

You need to find out what the Banks does for sure, probably someone on here knows. Then you can make the decision to add more timing, with a Rochtec crank sensor, or the tone ring mod, either one will give you a couple of degrees of timing, which may help mpg's.

The Edge mileage max,may be a safe stack, I do not know. I stack the Edge EZ with my Smarty(and sometimes TST) successfully, but in moderation only.

Like I stated, someone else on here may have experience with what you are contemplating. Jess

Thanks for the detailed response! I am pretty sure it is just a fueling box (pressure box). It connects to the MAP and FRP. I have read second or third hand that it doesn't advance the timing and only increases the fuel rail pressure (another no-no apparently). I also heard it inceases fuel pressure to a max of 25k psi.

cheers

If it is a pressure box (not fueling box) then thats all the Edge Mileage Max and Quadzilla Mileage Max are as well.

If you want timing you either need a Smarty or some other programmer, module that does duration/timing.

Being that the Bullet appears to be a pressure box you need to do something to get better filtration to protect your injectors.

JJPage,

How have you stacked the Edge and Smarty. Trying to get the beet mileage I can.

Thanks in advance for your response

Stacking the Edge and Smarty is not the best idea. The Smarty has much better timing control, to a point, than the Edge which does it its own thing. A pressure only Edge is a different story. You have to know what Edge box really does.

Smarty and the Banks pressure box would be a better stack IF you can control the pressure ranges. Running max pressure to 25k is not neccessarily bad if it is only used under heavy throttle, running that at a steady cruise is a recipe for disaster.

If you are going to run pressure you NEED a rail pressure gauge, the more accurate the better. Whne you stack you can get readings that do not emulate what the individual items would do alone. It is a compound effect and you need to see the results to keep things in a safe zone.

Example: a pressure box that kicks rail pressure up to around 18k cruisng is fine by itself, or, a DL'er that runs the same by itself is fine. Combine the 2 and you might get cruise rail pressure at 21k, very BAD.

You have to try the stacks, they vary with every truck, and monitor the results or your shooting blind. These things are PICKY all the way around and will bite hard if it gets out of hand.
