anyone have a lot of experience w/ different stack setups on stacked CTD's?

do the box crossovers yield a different sound than Y-pipe setups?

it's hard to really tell through sound files/video/etc. but it seems like the box crossover setups yield more of a raspy sound that sounds closer to a regular single exit straight pipe, and the Y-pipe setups have a little smoother sound and sound more like a baby 18 wheeler...

sound waves travel in a straight line, and I'm wondering if / guessing the box changes the sound?

I'm trying to talk a buddy into stacks, and he loves the way mine sound, but I'm trying to convince him to to the box crossover because it'll be cheaper and easier. but the video/sound we've seen of the box setup didn't really light his fire (nor mine... still sounded good, don't get me wrong, but not the same)

could have just been the sound quality of the video.

BUT, we also saw a video of a y-pipe'd truck, and it sounded like mine.

just trying to get some info from someone who's BTDT w/ both styles... the box would be SO much easier to set up!!!

forrest: i have no personall expirence with the "box" style cross over pipe for stacks but have heard there easier to get things square. ive heard both personally and cant really tell that much of a difference, if any. i'm running the same style Y pipe as you.

yeah, I was trying to talk him into a box setup because it's MUCH easier to get everything square (less work for me) and you don't have to worry about something sliding forward and denting the crossover...

honestly, the only reason I went w/ a full 5" Y setup is because I was planning twins and wanted the best flow possible... otherwise, I probably would have just gone w/ a 4" to box crossover. my setup took me a full Saturday to build. I'm VERY happy w/ the results, but if I can donate 4-5hrs of my time instead of 8-10hrs, I'd love to! LOL!

Speaking from truck pull attendence experience I do not hear any sound difference, and I'm usually picky so I would catch it. There was a silver 3500 at my hotel this year in Terra Haute, that pulled @ Scheid's event and it sounded just like any other stacked truck.

I personally am using 4x6 box steel for my up coming stack setup. 4x6 outflow's 4" is what I've read and it only cost me $30 for 6ft too! ;) vs. $200 for 4" pipe and misc. pieces

I have pics in my gallery if anyone wants to see... ..... my BOX pics are in my new truck gallery, I also have SEVERAL pics of my past stack setups with my old truck too.

Here's some pics of my finished crossbox.

... ... . yes... ..... I feel like braggin. :-laf

I used the steel crossover method for my stacks, got all the parts for free, but still is the cheaper way to go. I used a 4''x6'' steel box. Doesn't sound much different from buddies Y- pipe setup.

Travis can we see some pics of your setup..... not everyday does someone use box tubing or Bullhaulers!! :D

I've got a pair of curved tops on their way... got the pair for $80 shipped off ebay...

I love the way my miters look, but I'm hoping the curved tops will make the truck a little more obnoxious sounding outside the truck... get those sound waves down out of the atmosphere and pointing back at people on the ground ;)

Forrest

nice! ebay is deffintley the way to go on alot of stuff. im having difficulty finding 5" bull haulers... seems the only way i can get a set is 6" reduced to 5". im wanting to say 5" cause of my tonoe cover... . really dont want to ask the mother in law to make the holes bigger. i might not have a tonoe left! :-laf

I believe EagleTruckProducts.com has them too...

FWIW, I'm not a huge fan of bull haulers on single wheel trucks, but any stacks are better than none! :D

i know of hardley any trucks in the area with bull haulers... i like being different... . i think if i dont go to high above the cab of the truck it will look pretty sharp...

definately post up some pics!

pretty cool being able to change the look of the truck in 5 minutes... I usually don't see bull haulers on ebay, but there's a guy who sells miter cuts, curved tops, and turnouts for about half price.

Forrest

yeah i see his auctions quite frequently but opted to stick with my miters untiill i get the others. i really dont want to get the "rain hats" for my miters, although its fun watching my white truck turn into a dalmation right in front of my eyes after a rain shower. :D

mine doesn't shower that bad w/ light rains... a couple specs here and there... but we got a lot of rain last night, and I got a big splash of slobber on the pass bedside this morning! LOL!

I will try to get some pictures of my stack setup on here soon. I ordered my bullhaulers from berubes, but it took a long time as they were on backorder.

(Turbodiezel you saw my bullhaulers at fall brawl in october, it was the green lifted 2500, you took me a ride in you truck)
