Stacks (how loud?)

New member here. I am getting ready to upgrade exhaust I like the looks of stacks, however I am wondering how loud they would be inside the cab. Anybody out there running stacks on a daily driver ?

Not too bad

I've had mine on for over a month now and love them:) . With all of the windows closed I can still carry on a normal conversation and listen to the radio. But I would rather open the windows up,turn the radio off and listen to that Cummins music;) :) ,and sometimes I don't want to talk to the person thats riding with me anyhow:D . It also gets noisier when the boost is up,i. e. under load or with my Edge turned all the way up. I also love to see the smoke roll out of them;) :D . Doug

too late

Already got the bomb bug, new gauges ordered from Geno's, Also looking at the different air filter set-ups, and edge comp waiting to be installed. I think stacks would be way cool on my flatbed

Go with the stacks, you will love them! The sound is just awesome!!! As long as I keep my speeds under 70mph the sound isn't very loud at all but once you get over 70 it gets pretty noisy inside the cab and can be a bit of a pain on long drives.

Let me start out by saying welcome! You'll love it here.

I've been running stacks for about 8 months now, and I wouldn't be without them. They look way cool, and sound great! I have a small resonator in the exhaust, which takes the "pop" out of it. In cab, exhaust noise is a non-issue (unless you go WOT which sounds like a 747 taking off :D).

Down pipe

Gizmo, did you buy a 4" down pipe and go from there ? I have found most of the parts needed

from the big truck parts place. I was wondering what if a guy used the cat. converter instead of a resonator or is it too restrictive ?

I had a 4" Bully-Dog system on mine for a while, and then I seen a truck with dual stacks at Glen-Burnie Cummins and I just had to have stacks(thanks Cliff);) . This is kind of an expensive route to go tho. as I now am selling rest of my 4" system(sorry guys I already promised it to someone). I think some of the guys adapt from 3-4"and go thru the bed to a y-pipe and then to 5" at the stacks. Some guys also run a muffler or resonator to make things a little quieter. But I don't need no stinkin' muffler :D . Also you mention you had a flat bed. You might want to make sure everything will clear the fuel tank if you don't want the y-pipe above the bed. Do a search for Oasis-3(T. D. R. member)he has a list of everything you will need, part numbers and all. It's all Walker stuff. Hope this helps. Oh yea, what's your first name so I know who I'm talking to :) . Doug

As mentioned above, very nice sound, but resonance kicks in about 1800-1900 rpm. Put in an epiflex connector at the bottom of the downpipe just ahead of the Walker muffler (left over from the DD 4" system), which helped... . but conversation is tough above 70 mph. But since I'm a solo commuter 99% of the time if I can't hear me talking to myself it's no big deal :D

Stacks Rock!!!

Just wait till you get em' put on and go between two office buildings in a downtown area with your window down... ... ... . it will take a truck load of sweet-tarts to get the smile off your face. :D :D :D

I just can't wait to change my 5" to 6":p

Mine are done a little different than most I have seen pictures of on here. I have a 4" square pipe across the front of my bed. A 90 degree elbow is welded into the bottom of it and goes through the bed to flexpipe coming from a 4" downpipe. In the top of the 4" crosspipe are a pair of 4" to 5" adapters that the stacks slip into. This set up cost a little less and sounds good to me.

I noticed everyone going through the bed of truck. For those of us who need the space for a slide-in, anyone ever exited the side of truck in front of the dually flares? Can it be done?

It's possible,,,,but

The problem is the drivers side pipe. One member installed stacks as you suggested, he ran the drivers side over the fuel tank utilizing a dip in the tank that will allow a 3 or prehaps a 3. 5 inch pipe to clear. He stated that there was sufficient clearance to not have a heat issue with the plastic tank. But it's pretty tight, if I ever tackle this, I'll attempt to use some type insulation between the pipe and tank. And if you have running boards, you gotta cut a hole in them.

If you do go this route, be sure to keep us informed.

If I put stacks on my truck I will NOT drill holes in my ARE cap, so they will have to be outside the bed...
