Competition Weight Difference In Bio And Dino

I posted in the other forum first but figure you competition guys might know more. Are stacks legal in central calif (fresno) and if so what restrictions are there (height, size etc) thanks ken

I believe if they exit 90* to the side of the vehicle, the must be over 12feet high (don't quote me on that measurement). That was a law for not filling up buses with fumes. The straight up exit stacks have no restriction that I know of.

Ok, sorry... found it...

27152. The exhaust gases from a motor vehicle shall not be directed to the side of the vehicle between 2 feet and 11 feet above the ground.

Let's not forget this one :-laf

27151. (a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2. 5 (commencing with Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.

(b) For the purposes of exhaust systems installed on motor vehicles with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of less than 6,000 pounds, other than motorcycles, a sound level of 95 dbA or less, when tested in accordance with Society of Automotive Engineers Standard J1169 May 1998, complies with this section. Motor vehicle exhaust systems or parts thereof include, but are not limited to, nonoriginal exhaust equipment.

or this one :-laf I know i am guilty of at least a few of these, 4 to be exact... i'll let you pick

27153. No motor vehicle shall be operated in a manner resulting in the escape of excessive smoke, flame, gas, oil, or fuel residue.

The provisions of this section apply to motor vehicles of the United States or its agencies, to the extent authorized by federal law.

well i live in modesto and i have a 6in that 90* out the side at 7. 5 ft i do have a ''muffler''. i went thro a sobrity check point the other night, i pull up and the officer looks at the pipe and says thats one heck of a pipe you go there. i was like yeah. he asks why'd you do that. i said it sounded good. he even asked me if it smoked i told him alittle. he asked if he needed to get his little chart i said no it was fine and he let me go. also one of the others as i went by asked if it was an 18 wheeler i told him almost since i have the stack truck mirrors and cb whips. anyways no i don't belive they concern themselves w/ it much. i have seen many cops and no one has ever given me a problem. so i would say go for it.

for limitations yes it can't be 90* out the side between 2 and 11 ft and obviously you can only have it so high or it wouldn't fit under overpasses other then that there isn't anything

its my stocker that i cut shorter and gutted the center pipe so thats its basicaly an empty can that is 8in around it just looks like one hence the '' '' it keeps the cops happy tho no one has said its to loud exxept my parents

"shall not be directed to the side of the vehicle between 2 feet and 11 feet above the ground. "

Interesting... I wonder exactly what constitutes "to the side", as all the factory exhaust tips point out to the side and rear of the trucks, and are all reaaaaaly close to, if not slightly higher than 2' off the ground.

I think some time back another member had the same question, I know around here there hasn't been any problem with stacks of course im in farm country, I think the one issue that came up was that the stacks needed to have heat shields, in this area as long as they come out of the bed area they are not required(don't quote me on this) I believe if they come to the outside heat shields are required as to not pose a hazzard of someone getting burned if they were to touch them. But on that note if anyone is stupid enough to touch a pair of stacks on a truck i own then they should get burned for messing with my truck. . thats just my opinion though... . might want to check in calif. and see if heat shields are required... I wouldn't call the DMV as your probably going to get the "oh you can't do that" attitude im sure.

In Calif. no exhaust is to exit the vehicle between 2 & 7' period. and only straight up between 7 & 11'. This is what it was a few years ago, I have had no need to check lately.
