Has anyone successfully installed stacks with a shell/cap on their truck? I need the shell for road trips where I sleep in the back of the truck, but stacks are just way cool so I was trying to think of a way to do both. If a 5" hole was drilled in the roof of the shell, how could it be sealed around the pipe in a way that would allow some movement from flex while still keeping the rain out? I also notice most people drill one hole in the bed and Y off from there... but that would take up a lot of my sleeping space. Is there enough room to Y under the bed and drill 2 holes for the stacks? As a side benefit, I could high-idle the truck while I'm sleeping back there and stay nice and toasty! :D

I think you might have a problem running both at the same time. But, another option is to install removable stacks. Whenever you aren't camping out in the back, pull off the shell and slip on the stacks. If you need a place to sleep... pull the stacks off and put the shell back on.

IMHO, the hardest part would be sealing the stacks to the shell. You'd need something heat resistant... those puppies get pretty hot in the summer. Another option would be to route the stacks outside of the bed, just behind the doors. Then you could do both, plus you wouldn't have to cut a hole in your sleeping area.

If you figure out a way to do it, then post some pics!

If you get an exhaust leak while your sleeping and running the truck, you might not wake up!

Personally I think it would look stupid coming out the top of the cap also, but that's my opinion.

That looks kinda cool on a dually... but would look pretty hoaky on a SRW probably. Thanks for the pic tho. . I was looking for one like that! :)

I would have to agree with what CIverson said. Sleeping back there with the truck running would be a dangerous idea. You might not wake up and if you did you would have a really bad headache.

how about using a 5" stack that is permantly sealed to the roof of the cap, and the floor of the bed, and sticking a 4" stack up inside it. the 5" would act as a heat shield, and you might have a better chance of trying to get a 4" pipe snuck between the frame & bed. you could drill like a 5. 5" hole and use a big rubber grommet around the 5" stack. with it being double walled like that, the rubber should take the heat ok. .

This is an obvious photochop but I borrowed the stacks from the grey truck and put them on my truck to show you how it looks with a short bed and a shell

Different than a shell, yes, but I saw a truck the other day with a flatbed trailer. He had a toolbox and everything on it so instead of running the stacks between the rack and the box, he made an extra wide headache rack for it and ran the stacks THROUGH the headache rack. I think they were only 4" but still looked unique.

How would one sleep in the bed of a truck next to stacks... while the engines running anyway? Wouldn't that be kind of loud? I know there is no way anyone is falling asleep in the bed of my truck while its running. :)
