Stacks with "Silent Choice"

Thanks, TDR Staff

The EZ works!!

Fram FUEL filters OK?

Here is a pic of my new creation. It is a set of butterfly valves in the exhaust that are cable controlled in the cab. They allow the exhaust to to either flow 4" straight piped to the stacks or enter a 3" pipe and and muffler and exit the stock tailpipe. The valves are coupled together so that when one is closed the other is always open.

The setup works great. Now I can go from obnoxious sounding stacks, to "It wasn't ME officer" quiet with the pull of a cable.

I will try to post some more pics if I can get them to load up.

Kevin, very nice!!!. I needed to do that a long time ago,my exhaust was abnoxious even with a muffler, the drone was unbearable, but since i got twins its quieted down quite a bit. was it difficult to make the flaps? did you weld on some sleeves for bushings where the shaft rides?

Now if you make it so both flaps close you''l have a poor mans exhaust brake;) .

Snow thanks for the compliment. This was a sort of a quick and dirty first design to See how well the idea worked. I didn't put on any sleeves yet but plan to add them later. The actual valves took some time to make. I plasma cut them oversize out of stainless plate, then ground them to fit. I used grade 8 bolts for the shaft. Talk about a pain in the @$% to tap into!!

Wholly frikkin' sneaky pete! That has gotta be from the wake up in the middle of the nite and yell "AHA" files!

That is just simply one of the cooler gotta haves I have yet to see.

Or if money is no object, get 2 remote-mount exhaust brakes... . :D

Nice work. Nice to have the choice like that.

Kevin, awesome, now this would be  to have . Only one question, How does your truck look with two different exhaust systems? Like the idea " No officer, the stacks are just for looks"

:-laf :-laf

I plan to hide the tail pipe, it does look a little silly with both stacks and a tailpipe. I searched high and low looking for a 4" valve that could take the heat. The only thing i found was the silent choice valves for boats, but they were fairly expensive and designed to handle exhaust that had already been cooled by having water injected into it. 2 exhaust brakes would of been perfect, other than the $ factor.

Kevin- Mr. BIGHAMMER is the man! If you put an exhaust brake (ONLY ONE) on the pipe to the stacks, you'll achieve the same function. When the E-brake is open, the exhaust can free flow up the Stacks, and also through the restricted normal outlet. (Free flowing stacks will get almost all the flow). Shut the exhaust brake- stacks- and flow is forced through the quiet pipe. Good idea B-Hammer!

The reason I went with two valves is that I plan to hide the rear tailpipe and thought it would look like I have an exhaust leak when blowing lots of smoke out the stacks building boost. Also with how much my truck smokes I like to have control over where I am throwing out the cloud.

Illflem nice find. I will have to look into those. The 4" even comes with a machined flange to weld right to the pipe.

I emailed the company and the guy got right back to me with some questions. Sort of surprising for a Saturday.

Said he'd get back with a price on Mon.
