I'm looking to run 6in stacks on my 2002 cummins. Would like some info on what people are running. I want to run no mufflers. Any pros or cons with doing this?

Thanks richard

Richard,i looked into doin this same thing with my 2001 but a lot of people told that the noise level in the cab is uncomfortable. don`t get me wrong ,i love the machanical sounds that come form the old cummins but i don`t like exhast noise. but the stack a the best looking thing you can do other than wheels.

I have 4 inch stacks with a single muffler under the cab spilt into two outputs to feed each stack. Still sounds great, but makes it so you can hear yourself think on the highway. Still loud enough, though. Also, is yours a drw or single? I took a lesson from Dodge's Lil' Red Express in the late '70s and did things a little differently. See post #7 in this thread:

Also, your neighbors might appreciate a muffler, especially if you leave for work earlier than they do.

extended cabs resonate the sound more so it will amplify the noise in the cab versus a regular cab. The straight pipe is too loud on my 02 and am looking for a muffler to put back on it.

Here is mine, originally I left the muffler off because I thought it would be cool but it didn't take long to put one on.

Certain RPM and load factor make mine drone. It droned with straight 4" exhaust and does now w/ the 6" stacks but the only time it gets annoying to me is the 12hr. road trip.

JesseJ,

I used to experience the drone also with my stacks and no muffler. I added the BD Twins to solve my high egt problem while towing and low and behold... . it solved my drone problem also. I guess the extra airflow going through the head also made my Cummins much more quiet. Twins solved everything for me!

Would love to have twins of course, but the wife says there are more important things to spend our money on right now, and I said LIKE WHAT? :)

Yeah I got twins they make the most annoying noise you can imagine... Mine ain't in child seats... . anymore. They stopped fitting in em years ago:-laf

i've got 6 inch aussies on a reg cab and it sounds cool, but the drone gets annoying real fast on the interstate, especially with a load/pulling hills. I wouldn't mind having a short muffler of some kind i could slide in for road trips. Anyone know of something like this?

get ahold of rip at Source Automotive Performance Diesel he has a good selection of mufflers easy band clamps to take off or put back on your straight piece. also I have heard alot of people do a muffler with a resignator also.

I run a Warp Speed Performance muffler installed backward to act as a resonator. It takes all the drone out and leaves nothing but a really mean sounding truck. Loud is good but loud with no annoying drone is better. I've had many people who were not diesel nuts say my trucks sounds really mean. To me a resonator is like adding subwoofers to your exhaust systems. It filters out the sound waves you don't want and intensifies the sound waves you do want to hear.

When I changes from a stock S300 to an HTT 62\13 Super Stock (a modded S300 basically) my exhaust vibrations problems at 75-80 MPH went away. Turbo size as well as the length of an exhaust system can effect the vibrations that move through the exhaust system.
