I'm thinking about putting stacks on my Quad 3500 and I noticed everyone puts the stacks up thru the inside of their bed. I would like to mount mine on the outside of the bed. It looks like I could put some mounting brackets in the corners of the bed between the bed and cab. Is there something under the truck that will interfere with this type on installation? I keep meaning to look but everytime I'm under the truck I don't think of it (I'll admit I'm getting on the gray/bald side of life).

thanks in advance for any input.

BIG THUMBS UP!

Cliff, I'm with you on this one. While the stacks look good thru the bed, I think that outside the bed as you've described would look great. I've given this a good bit of thought and have even gone to the local big truck store and set 4" stacks on the full length DZEE running boards on my truck. Looks just right.

If you keep every thing in tight, they wouldn't extend past the fenders. On my turck, there are 3/8" or so holes in the vertical stiffing rib on the front of the bed that could be used as attachment points for mounting brackets.

One of the challenges is how to get the drivers side exhaust plumbed in. David Heins, fellow TDR member in MN. used the 5 or 6" dip located near the front of the fuel tank to get to the left side. He ran a 3" pipe to that side, (I would then go to 4"), it's tight, but he said that even after a hard run the tank was still cool below the pipe. A heat sheild and some insulating header tape should remove any concerns.

A set of chrome heat shields, and curved stacks outside the body on a 3500 would look like a Big Boy "Lit'l Red Truck" from the late 70's. And that would be a good thing.

Good luck, Ronnie.
