stalling 06

I posted this a year ago and got no response, I'll try again, still need some ideas.



never had this in my 04. 5, but on my new 06 several times I have stalled out when launching at slight throttle, it's a little embarassing if not dangerous in heavy traffic, It will launch just fine with no throttle at all, but occasionally it seems if I release the clutch too fast and the rpm's get too low it cuts the fuel off, depressing the clutch fast wont help, it wont recover, the engine just dies, restarting is no problem, it's just that when the engine decides to quit, it quits, period. . my question. . is this normal?



Still quits on launch if I have even the slightest throttle pressure, you can dump the clutch in any of the first three gears and cant kill it, but once it decides to quit, it wont recover, just have to restart, usually in the middle of an intersection :{#@$%!:{

It may be the FCA, may just need a cleaning.

(lots of threads on this).



Then it could be a defective accelerator pedal sensor.



Improvements for low end torque would be the rokktech sensor, or whatever else you prefer.

Dad had the current flash on his 06 done about a month ago, and stalled it 3 times in 2 days, never stalled before... might be something with the software... He adapted and hasn't happened since... I read on one of the other forums its common, and Cummins will have a new flash in the spring to fix the stalling issue????

I would guess this is a problem with the 6 spd manual trans only as launching with a slight throttle pressure is the norm, if it is a programming issue why wouldn't all 06 manual trans models have the problem?, I don't see it as a matter of low torque, the truck can pull stumps at idle, I lean toward the TPS as suggested may be the culprit.

My early 07 5. 9L is the same way. I seemed to stall it often (could never stall my old truck). I found that not touching the throttle and let the minium idle speed take over and I never stall it now. I think when they added the minium idle speed for clutch protection during lunching, that if you touch the throttle it will confuse the ECM and the truck stalls. So I just engage the clutch and than throttle up and no more stalling. This works in low and second as well as empty or loaded. If I try to goose the throttle or apply light throttle, the truck will stall.



This can be found in TSB 18-005-06 and states

Clutch durability improvement. Implemented a minimum engine speed limitation when launching vehicle from a stop, to protect the clutch.

My 07 5. 9L does the same thing. My family has had some fun with my stalling and now I can say to them HA! read this it's not the driver.

I had this exact same problem on my 07 5. 9l truck. It blew me away at how easily it would stall. The stall issue was quickly remedied by the Smarty. Even at the very lowest setting this "dead spot" in the low end was eliminated.
