I noticed something the other day that I thought was kind of odd and it's happened a few times since then. When I first start the truck, if I get on the gas pretty good and then have to go for the brakes the engine stutters and sounds like it is going to stall. One time, it actually did stall. Once the engine has warmed up, it doesn't seem to happen anymore. Is this normal for a diesel? Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Thanks,

Nate :)

Whell, it might b for a diesel running on gas, but so far (knock on wood) havent tried to run it on gas ( ).

Havent had that happen but could it be related to our PS pump probs? If the pump is "tight" that would put the load on the eng since the pump is used for both brakes & steering? Will be following this thread for more info... . My ps gets looked at tomorrow (for leak) after bed spray today.

Only time will tell, since there is no vacuum on these (unless you get the Cummins brake) to drive accessories, that eliminates a possible prob.

My 92 and 96 do this. I go on and off construction sites and when I hop a curb alot of times I will be on the gas then off real quick and it stalls. I think it builds a bit of boost and then the motor gets a snort of reverse boost that stalls it or just the sudden lack of fuel. Increasing idle speed has cured 90% of it on the 96 but I can still do it if I really have a big load on truck and build a bit of boost before coming off loud pedal. The 03 I am babying a little right now and have not done the same scenario with it. My trucks will do it cold, warm, or hot.

I always sort of take it easy on it until it's warmed up a bit. I'm not sure it's good for a diesel (or any engine for that matter) to "get on it" right after startup. JMHO
