engine oil analysis sample?

Refill with Mag-hytec Trans Pan

1/3 bottle every fillup since day 1 ('cept for the dealer fill up when I got it and I doubt they added anything. ) It is still dripping down to the 20's even at this time of the year but I run it year round. Not sure at what temp the summertime diesel gells at, but it can hit at low as the low 30's even in July/ August at 10,000 feet:eek:

I've only been using it a short time. Really like it but with the cost of fuel these days I am only putting in every other tank

I use an additive year round. The Redline 85+ is really good stuff. I use it mostly for lubricity, and also to reduce high-altitude smokiness.

Stanadyne is great. I just have a Redline hang-up, so that's what I use.

stanadyne

I have run it every tank in both my old '01 and my new '03 (37000 mi. between the two). its cheap insurance in my eyes.

I emailed Stanadyne and got a reply back in just a day or two.

I also complained about the foil seal and this is the response I

got back.

Dear Rob,

THANK YOU very much for your suggestion of re-designing our

foil seal. It has been suggested before and we are looking into a "tab" type foil that will hold the seal tight. Please be assured that we are pursuing another type of design that will be easier for the consumer to use.

THANK YOU for your kind words regarding our product!

Sincerely,

Stanadyne

My brother runs it year round in his 6. 9 ford diesel, so i dumped some into my cummins yesterday and we'll report if any changes are noticed.

Hmmm... I wrote them about the seal a long time ago and never got a reply. Maybe in a couple hundred more gallons they'll respond to my questions. :) I do know there are some great folks at Stanadyne. The VP of Stanadyne Ops has answered my questions and called me on the phone a couple times. They know what they are talking about for sure.

I can get a bottle for $5. So thats $1. 25 extra for every 15 gallons of fuel I add. Thats once a week for me.

Yearly fuel cost = 15gal x $1. 74 x 52 weeks = $1357. 20 yearly

Stanadyne adds $1. 25 per week X 52 weeks = $65 extra each year.

I think thats worth it in the long run. If you use $2000 as the cost of a new VP44... it would take 30 years for you to save that $65 per year to buy a new one if you don't use it. Thus its more expensive to save for a new injection pump than it is to care for one with additive. Think a VP44 will last 30 years?

Mine calculated out to $73 / year = Stanadyne cost, cheap enough.

Bob Weis

20,000 miles / 15 mpg = 1333 gallons of fuel per year

1333 gallons of fuel / 24 gallons per fill up = 55 fill ups per year

8 oz of Stanadyne in each fillup * 55 = 444 oz of Stanadyne per year

444 ounces / 128 oz per gallon = 3. 47 gallons of Stanadyne / year

5 gallons of Stanadyne cost $105 / 5 = $21 / gallon of Stanadyne

3. 47 gallons * $21 per gallon = $73 per year Stanadyne cost

Ncostello,

Can you send some of that $1. 74 fuel to me? I just paid $2. 47 here in the not so great state of CA. :{ :{ :{

Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pretty soon Stanadyne will be cheaper than fuel.

Interesting that some only figure they need OCCASIONALLY add fuel additives. If done only for cold temp anti-jelling purposes, I guess it's understandable - but if it's done for LUBRICITY issues, wonder what the owner thinks is happening inside the pump BETWEEN uses? ;) :D :p

I use Power Service in EVERY DROP of fuel going thru my engine, without fail!

VP44 and lube

As I'm now using a B20 fuel (20% bio-diesel) I don't feel the need to run an additive for lubrication purposes. The higher cost of the bio-diesel is kinda off-set by not buying an additive so... .

I can't get bio-diesel just anywhere so #2 goes in at times. This is when I throw in a little PS or Stenadyne lube/injector cleaner. Truck runs and starts great, so I guess it likes all the goodies going in the tank.

If you run a 24 valve with the VP pump I would keep some kind of lubricant in there with the fuel. JMO

I use Stanadyne PF in every tank. I've used it in the past on other diesels, the 89'Burban made 220k miles without any trouble, sold it but still going strong. The 95 Yukon 6. 5 td is another story. The injector pump on those is always on the verge of failure...

The best price I've found for Stanadyne is at the dieselpage.com. I usually get a case of 64 oz jugs. I use their funnel with a screen in it to catch the foil or other debris. So far it hasn't caught anything...

Where is it???

Where are you guy's finding Stanadyne (other then the internet). This has got to be the best kept secret in the transportation industry. I can find Power Service, Lucas, Howes and Red-line... . but not Stanadyne.

You would think the truck stops would have it... but it seems to be a rare beast. Anybody in the Northwest selling this stuff. And what's the price over the counter. Maybe it's better to stick with the inter-net... I don't know.

I was getting ready to order a case for about $100 (including shipping).

Also, if you look at Stanadyne's brochure (on-line)... . they do a comparison with several other diesel additives. One of those (that stacks up pretty well by the way) is a product by John Deere. Anyone used or heard of this John Deere diesel fuel additive??

Mike

Mike,

Go to dieselpage.com. Just received a case of pint bottles for $3. 97 each plus shipping. Even with shipping it's still cheaper than what it sells for here at a diesel shop.

A dodge Cummins tech told me that the John Deere stuff was the same as Stanadyne and that I should use either one every tank full. Incidentally, I installed DD1's at 130K and the OEM injectors were clean as a whistle.

I used it in my 12V about every other tank to every 3rd tank, will probably use it at least every other tank in the '05. Great stuff and was recomended to me by a Dodge diesel tech.
