Hey all, ready to fill-up my new '05 with its 3rd tank of fuel and am going to start using Stanadyne Performance Formula with each tank as preventive maintinance and the benefits it claims.



Cummins does not approve or disaprove of fuel additives, not quite sure what DC thinks, other than they say they are not necessary. I had good luck with Stanadyne in the 12V, using it every other tank, but with the new '05, I have read enough post's on the HPCR and on Stanadyne, that I think it would be wise to use in each tank.



BTW - I have read all of the posts about Emulsyfyers Vs Demulsyfyers.



Any thoughts, comments or reasons WHY this would not be a good idea to run Stanadyne Performance Formula each tank, other than the cost?

Yeah I would definitely use the Stanadyne. I think it was Piers who said he could tell what pumps had fuel conditioner run through them because they looked better when torn down. I don't think you can go wrong. I have used conditioner in every truck I've had and the injectors look great when I pull them. I've seen some pretty nasty ones come out of trucks not running something.



If for nothing else I think it gives you a measure of protection should you wind up getting some bad fuel.

I just bought two cases of Performance Formula specifically over concerns about the low sulphur fuels and lack of lubricity. It can only get worse as they change fuel formulations to meet future emission standards. What Vaughn said, make me feel even better.

As I read more and more from fuel manufacturers like Ashland, Mobil, and Chevron, I am less and less concerned with lubricity problems associated with ULSD. These companies are changing their additive packages to ensure ULSD has the same lubricity of non-ULSD fuel.



I've heard both sides of the great "Emulsifier/Demulsifier" debate... I have not yet chosen a side.

I go along with Vaughn and Casey! I've used fuel conditioner in all three of my CTD trucks. I definately feel they keep the fuel system cleaner.

I think I've tried them all! Finally settled on Stanadyne. It isn't easy to find but seems to be one of the better additives on the market.

As for lubricity... I'm not content with what we get at the pump. Although it might be over-kill... a little 2cyl oil even goes in with the Stanadyne.

This whole LP/VP44 thing has me worried. A few more ounces of oil won't hurt.

I was running Power Service for awhile but I recently switched to Stanadyne. I honestly feel the truck runs smoother with the Stanadyne. I personally use the "one shot" bottles so I don't have an opened container in my cab that could leak.
 
I'm running Stanadyne every other tank in my 04. I just buy 12 of the 8 oz - "1-Shot" bottles through Scheid Diesel and they ship them right out... with the price of diesel right now the shipping cost is cheaper than driving to the south side of town to buy it from a diesel supplier. I like the peace of mind of having some extra lube for that expen$ive fuel pump.
