Folks, things are progressing well on the home front. Thanks for the kind words. Back to transmission questions...
I have talked to a lot of builders and while some things seem to be consistent, some are not.
Manual VB - most builders seem to be saying that this is a bad idea. A reverse pattern especially. I am told that they run full line pressure all the time and to hold the kind of power we're talking, they would be very harsh on the street. Most have said that it would be better to build a normal pattern VB and then control line pressure with throttle position cable. Thoughts?
I am the only person that drives the truck and although I don't really want something that will be very harsh, I don't think I would mind having to shift a manual VB at all. I don't mind shifting my 5 sp just hate the time it takes and the loss of boost when shifting.
Any suggestions on builders who would know a thing or two about building a manual VB transmission for my app? Most the diesel transmission folks seem to not be very interested and the race transmission shops that do, don't know much about the diesels and seem to be afraid of building manual VB chrysler trannies period. Something about breaking sprags...
My idea of a perfect setup would be to have a auto transmission that I control shifting. It shifts firm but does not bang hard. It will also live with 500-600hp and 2wheel drive launches.
Thanks
