I want to buy a 2ed gen. CTD w/ standard cab , short bed and 4x4. I have been told C/D didn't build any. Does anybody on TDR know if this is true? Thanks for the help.

No, D/C never made a standard cab short bed 2500-3500. There where available as a 1500 though. Closest you could get is a extended cab short bed, only available starting '98 model year

If you're looking for the shortest wheelbase, the regular cab/8' box is 134. 7 inches vs. 138. 7 inches for the Club Cab/Quad Cab with 6. 5' box.

I seriously doubt that there is enough length in a reg cab short box to put the drive train required for a CTD, xfer case, and transmission.

A few years ago I saw a reg cab with a super short flat bed on it that ended at the rear wheels. It was at some truck fest or another and I seem to recall the guy had it set up for intense off roading. It was a gasser but I remember it because the break over angle in the back was almost 90'. Not sure what you lose if you remove the last few feet of frame rails though...

I think the standard cab SWB 2nd gen wheelbase is around 118", that would make the drive line about 40", I think that would be long enough to avoid any drive shaft angle problems. I have been thinking about shortening the frame on a 2nd gen CTD and installing a SWB bed for a lighter duty work and trail truck. The ride could be easily fixed with a T-Rex system and reworked rear leaf pack
