Hello to all! It's been awhile since I posted but I'll throw this out to the experts and see what comes back. Last week I bought a '91. 5 W250,LE, auto, standard cab with 300,000 miles. Truck has been maintained and is in excellent condition minus the paint which is peeling. My question deals with the injector pump: I've moved the diaphram to the 3 oclock position, turned the screw under the cap on top of that two turns clockwise and adjusted the star wheel clockwise 180 degrees. I'm still not seeing any smoke but the truck is running quite abit better (it ran excellent before the adjustments). How far do you normally go on the starwheel adjustment before you see smoke? I'm happy with the mid-range and top end but I think the bottom end power could still come up some. Thanks in advance for the replies. J. Johnson

Hi JJ! Welcome back to a real truck! ;) It's not how far or what position you turn the diaphragm to, you just put the deepest part of the cone to the front. On the starwheel, each truck is different. Just keep turning it down until it smokes how you want. The spring resists boost, so turning it down makes the fuel come on sooner. If you turn it down too far, it dumps too much fuel too quick and smokes like a SOB.

I'm personally not a big fan of turning the smoke screw on top of the AFC down. It just burns more fuel constantly, even at low throttle settings. Just my $. 02 though, and we all know what that's worth! :-laf

Thanks Pete. I'd forgotten how much fun these 1st generation trucks can be:) I guess tomorrow I'll keep turning the wheel till I get what I want. And yes, I have the deepest part of the rod to the front of the pump. I think the next deal will be gauges and a 16cm turbo housing:). Oh I still have the 2005 SWB.
