I really like my 90' W250 [230k mi. ] But sometimes I wonder if she likes me.

She started in front of the house. I drove to a store. Then a no-start. I was able to push her down a small grade and bump started.

Good battery, new [rebuilt] starter, new start relay, fairly new ignition switch and no power to the starter.

Power everywhere else.

I disconnected the battery then reconnected. STARTS like nothing ever happened.

What gives?

To clarify, go to User Control Panel, and then fill out your truck profile.

I second the bad connection/ ground. Do you get a no crank? Or just a crank and no start? If the latter, check the wire to the solenoid on the pump. If it is loose, it wont open the stopper and allow fuel to flow. The blue wire is the one of concern.

Sounds like loose connection or possible bad ground.

I'll second that one - I would take the cables off on both ends and clean them and the part they contact until they are nice and shiny, then put on a little conductive grease and put it back on. Make sure your cable is not a real small one as they cause simmilar probs - start fine when cold but then when it is warm from the engine they do not carry enough capacity. Yours sounds more like a bad connection (loose and or corroded)

Clean all connections, and make sure everything is tight, two battery connections, and two connections at the starter. If not a bad connection or ground, maybe the new start relay is no good? Bill

There is also one small black wire leading from the negative battery terminal to the front rad support.

It is a poor ground at best so it can't hurt to redo that one with something a bit more substantial.

Next in line is the start/stop solenoid. It can produce these symptoms too..... unless I miss read your post... .

This solenoid is on the firewall end of the injection pump and has 2 wires on spade connectors attached to it. Check to make sure those are clean and tight.

Next is the solenoid itself, but first try the other items mentioned.

get back to us on your results...

Get that thing going so you can attend the first gen day at Piers. OH YEAH I hope you get her going. Wish you luck I have no clue what is going on. I would think that it is the fuel solenoid, but i don't know for sure. I am still young compared to this group. Just my 2ct.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Pillips5 Sorry about the neglected profile.

To clarify the no-start is a failure to crank.

I cleaned and checked all of the connectons including the little black ground wire.

All seems ok. 10 years ago I unplugged the annoying seat belt buzzer so now I wait for the SB light to go out before cranking. I just discovered that if I fail to wait for the light to go out She might not crank. Disconnect then reconnect the battery and all is fine.

I haven't had a bad starter from NAPA in a decade or so. So I would rule that one out. Head towards the body grounds as suggested by BW.

If they check good. I would look around the ing swicth as being intermeant.
