Start Up Noise

When the truck has been sitting a while and cold enough to use the grid heater, I hear a noise a few seconds after start up. I only hear this when it's cold and after sitting a while (week(s)). The noise is a grinding that lasts about a second. It's loud and scary if it's not normal. Any idea what it might be?

I think I heard that too, I think its the belt when the AC kicks on for defrost.

I'm pretty sure the sound you hear is the power steering pump growling. I've noticed the same sound from all three of my trucks, my sister's 03 and my friend's 07. I wouldn't be too alarmed by it.

my power steering sounded rough in the Minnesota cold. But a few minutes warming, the sounds went away... But sure scared me at first.
