Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) start up

my 00 24v emits soot on startup. it doesnt matter if it is cold or warmed up. is this normal?

Do you have any mods done to the truck? What elevation are you at? This information will aid us in helping you troubleshoot your problem.

Mine always puffs on startup. It seems to get incrementally worse with every bigger set of injectors I run.

Most CTD's puff a little when you start them, as long as it does'nt keep smoking at idle or blow big amounts of smoke when it is bone stock, its perfectly normal.

thanks everyone. i dont know if my truck is modified at all. i just bought it about 6 months ago. i dont know what our elevation is here, i will have to do some research. as far as i know it is stock. it pulls damn good though. but when you finally move to the realm of turbo diesel it always seems better. i have driven them all and i like the cummins the best. thanks again.
