Did the Larry B. starter contact fix today.
I've had the kit for a few weeks, but was not sufficiently motivated to fix it till last evening, when it pulled the ole "click, click. click... ... . " trick at the bank drive-thru. Really makes you feel like a hero!
Anyhow, the fix itself went well. The instructions were complete, and I am impressed at how beefy the new contacts are, especially compared with the old one which was paper thin. Don't know how it lasted this long.
The only real problem I had was with the stud/terminal where the battery cable connects to the starter. It looks like it had been mashed somehow, and was a real bear to get loose.
Here's my question; Is it possible for the front axle housing to travel far enough in a hard bottoming situation to hit that terminal?? It looks like that's what happened, because the rubber boot has a big hole there, and also looks melted, as in a dead short.
Anyone else ever seen this??
