Make sure you carry the means with you to disconnect your batteries if it should stick for good. If you aren't prepared you might lose the starter motor, the fuel shutdown solenoid and some wiring due to overheating. The $20 contacts could easily cost you $600 in damage.

My starter started giving a dead click @ 100k and was able thru a very reliable parts house able to obtain a contact kit for under six bucks. Disconnect battery, remove wires from starter, use 10mm 12pt box (short due to swing room) and a lot of muscle as they have loctite on the three very hard case bolts to remove starter, lay a clean rag on tailgate and remove plate that houses contacts. Make sure you take note of how it comes apart. You will most likely find the Hot contact will be eaten down too a nubbin. I do about 30k per year with a lot of starts and I consider 100k very good for such a cheap fix. I put 250k on a 90 chevy p. u. and went thru 5 starters under same conditions but I guarantee you chevy starters and the one in your truck dont compare in price. Hope I have helped. PS. : I had my start problem for about two weeks before I got around to fixing problem.

thanks for the advice. I ordered the contact kit from LarryB and for now carring a 1/2 wrench and pliers just in case it hangs again. (plus keeping the wife out till I fix it. )

Did a friends starter today with Larry's kit. No problems with the install. Excellent fix. I will second stseeber on the muscles for breaking those bolts loose.
