Stopped for fuel and got the CLICK when I tried to restart. THis happened 3 x's then started. Did a search and conclude starter solenoid from all accounts. How do I verify this. How do I check voltage at starter. I had the starter replaced once about 170,000 miles ago and it sounds like all things point to the solenoid. Anything else I should look at??

Next time it clicks, just take a broom handle and tap the solenoid. If it works, then replace contacts.

The advice mentioned worked for my '97 as stated, new contacts were not very difficult to install.

One additional check point is the condition of the often overlooked battery terminal ends and engine grounds.

Look at Geno's garage they sell a replacement starter contact kit that I feel is a very good investment. I and a friend of mine have both replaced our stock ones which went away prety quickly. The kit ones are twice the size of the stock ones and should last much longer. They were easy to install.
