After doing a search .
96 3500 auto.
About once every other day my starter is not engaging . It makes the loud high pitch grinding noise only once then works ok .
I replaced my solenoid plunger and contacts with Larry B's about 9 months ago . Every thing has worked perfect until last week . The starter spins plenty fast when it engages . I did check this morning and the starter is bolted up tight .
Could this be the Bendix ? And what can I do to remedy this .
I must repair this before my flywheel gets damaged .
Also the engine always cranks within 2 seconds on the starter. Nothing has been abused or overworked . 170,000 miles on stock starter. The temperature has been colder than normal ? 25 degrees F
Any help will be appreciated .
Thanks
