I have a 12 valve 98 2500 4x4 auto. in need of a solenoid for the starter. A while back I read in the mag about a guy that changed his solenoid out instead of buying the whole starter for $200

The problem lies in finding that article for the info of where to acquire said solenoid.

I've called cummins and auto parts with no luck.

anyone out there with that info ???

Thanks in advance

There are some kits on eBay for about $20 "buy it now" that have the contacts and plunger. That's about as cheap a I have seen them.

It's a pretty easy fix.

If you do the change add some amsoil grease to the starter bearings (Don't grease the solonoid plunger). The 12 point bolts that hold the starter came out hard so I would grease them too. I did mine 10k ago.

Ive talked to some people about my starter trouble and they don't seem to think its my seleniod.

When I start the truck the starter fails to disengage. I have to turn the key all the way back to the off position to stop the starter. Then restart. It always works fine the secound try.

It's only happened 3 times in the last 2 wks.

It seems to happen after the truck sits for a day or two.

I thought the seleniod was the culprit.

Any ideas??

seneniod parts ordered

Sorry for the confusion, I ordered the contacts .

Joe at Beusings told me if the starter was sticking on that it could be the key switch more than the seneniod .

After finding LarryB 's They straighted me out .

Thanks for all the replies .
