Has anyone rebuilt the brushes in their starters? I was told by my local NAPA store that there are no rebuildable parts in the starter but they would happily sell me a new one. I cry BS

Just about all the parts for these Nippondenso starters are available from most starter/altenator shops. The only components that normally require replacement are the contacts and sometimes the plunger in the solenoid housing. The brushes in these starters seem to last forever. The contacts are generally a 70-100k part, the plungers get burned if the contacts are let go too far. The solenoid is the part under the cover that looks like a house.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Had my starter rebuilt at by the guy who does all my electrical rebuilding for tractor/truck parts. Cost me $97. 00. I gave the guy a tip and he said the starter would last another 170,000 miles. Don't buy a new one, just have yours rebuilt.
