Well guys 56K miles no trailer hauling just commuting to Houston and back, had my starter go out. No tell tale signs like weak connection, solenoid sticking having a hard time getting it to crank. It just went form 56K miles of no problems to click... ... no start.

This is nothing major I figure. NOT!!!

1. No DODGE starter for the 2003 CTD HO in the state of Texas.

2. No aftermarket rebuilds

3. No guarantee form Cummins that their's will fit.

The real P*SSER, is 600 smackers. (Cummins Houston same price but they wanted $75 for overnighting it)

My question is Do you'all think I should keep the old one and wait to get some parts for a re-manufacture?

Another question has anyone else had problems with their starter?

Man any more expenditures like this I'll have to get something else.....

Correct the stater is not covered under the 100K, so you guys that spent some coin for the extended bumper to bumper till 100k all it will take is replacing the stater twice and you made money.

So a word to the wise for the 4004. 5 and 4005 owners work the extended warrnaty into your new truck deal.

They pay for all of it or you pay half and the dealership pays half, its worth it...

Hey obie no starter problems here but just wanted to drop a line. Where do you work? I also commute to Houston... I live in Industry... Maybe I'll see ya in Brenham some time... .

I would try to find a small business that rebuilds alts and starters. I bet someone that really knows his stuff can fix you up> There a old guy not far from where i live that can rebuild anything. If he's still alive?

I work at Richmond and Beltway 8 and three days downtown at ENI Petroleum's office. I'm a petrophysicist (oil exploration and production).

Be lookin' for the flame red truck. I'm easy to spot... Silver 1 ton and my plates say "OBIE".

Found a local shop that rebuilds starters (Grimms Radiator Brenham, TX) and I'll be taking it there soon.

Repair gives you a 1 year 12000 mile warrnaty. Must say that Appel Dodge treated me very well as they really tried to push DC to pick up some of the cost. But no avail. I then requested the old starter to get it worked on.

yeah I know Bradley and his sister and his brother in law, they are all great people.

Be able to test the starter to find out what caused it to fail.

As mentioned before there were no warnings, just click... nothing. The Dodge boys also repalced some fuses???? Makes me wonder...

Maybe one of the starter contacts TU'd? Take the starter out and check them. From what I heard Larry B's starter contacts work on the 3rd Gens.

Otherwise do as other suggested, take it in to a good Starter/Alternator service shop, that's what I do instead of buying rebuilds or remans.

At least you were gentle about it... thanks

Great information just got to remeber tenafly Chrysler next time.

This really shows the mark up... .

Haven't dropped it off I imagine not much more than $120 -150 range. I'm sure it will depend on parts cost and extent ot damage. When I get a price I'll post it.
