starter

lost the starter on my truck last week. got it today after they had to go thru star to get it. turns out they have a wire chaffing probelm on these trucks and that cases many misdiagnosed starters/ thus the restriction. well when I was at haisleys shop we had a big draw that blew the fuse, but came to the determination that the starter was bad. Curt was pulling that night so van pull started the ole mule ,to get me out of there. bench tesing here at home confirmed Vans diagnoses. the small wire on my truck is chaffed and I don't see what it rubbed agaist to cause it. but I fixed the problem with it and put a piece of 1/4 inch fuel line over it covering the length. you might want to check this on your trucks and prevent it from being the gremlin that takes you out while on a trip. 3/10 mm 12 point bolts and the wiring to get it off. :{

Can you give a description of the location of this chaffed wire? I would like to check mine but can't figure out where you are talking about. Is it at the starter? Sorry to be ignorant, just want to make sure I don't spend all day looking for it.

I called scheidd today to see how bad I messed up ,for not callling them first before dodge. I'll say this, call them or another cummins shop first . :{ it will save you around 200 dollars over dodges price.
