I just purchased a 97 Grand Cherokee from a friend last week that has about 100,000 miles on it. About two weeks ago he spun out and into a cable on a telephone poll and it turned the vehicle onto its side. I know the truck from new and know the engine was in great shape so I purchased it and plan on using the motor for another grand cherokee that I have. It had not been started since the accident so I checked all the fluids, removed the air box which was full of oil and then started the Jeep, at first it smoked like crazy as I expected and eventually the smoke stopped, but it still smokes when I step on the gas. I know its burning oil that probably went all over where it wasn't suppose to be but is it bad to be running this motor? I've never dealt with something like this so I was wondering what should I be doing with a motor that was in this type of situation, even the trans since I plan to use that too, both seen to be working fine except for the smoke. Its the 5. 2 liter and I know it did not smoke before the accident. Thanks for any ideas.
