Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Starting Problem

My friend has a 96 5-speed and when he goes to start it it just clicks and if he fools with it for a couple of moments it will start. Do you think his starter contacts are getting bad or possibly a clutch switch? The truck has 87,000 miles on it.

you hit on the head, his contacts are gone. get them done before it takes out the fuel solenoid.

changed mine at 74,800, one was over half gone, the other was still shiny, so am keeping it in the tool box for an emergency.

Don't wait to replace the starter contacts. They can stick and cause your starter to keep turning even though you've released and turned off the ignition! The contacts have been discussed quite a bit in the forums, use the search tool you get more info... . meanwhile, I suggest you plan to pull the starter and have 'em replaced ASAP. The contacts are cheap compared to replacing a starter that is toasted because it stuck.
