A friend of mind has 98. 5 with 120000 miles. The last lift pump was changed 97000 miles under warrenty. The dealer said there was no 44vp damage even though the first sign of the problem was that the it would not run at all. The truck will start fine when its cool after sitting all night. After the engine is warm you have to crank for a while to get it fire. Could this the lift pump again or was there damage to the 44 from before? Once it starts it runs fine, with no codes. He wants to know if its time to trade or give the dealer a chance to figure it out. :( :(

Guages are bible.

Without a fuel pressure guage that replaced pump could have been dead off the dealer lot. I have seen Lift pumps last as little as seven secconds. VP damage is sure to insue without an LP. The VP needs fuel fed to it not only for lubricitave properties but cooling as well. It sounds like this one may very well be the VP44 as Hard starts are a clue all in itself.
