On my 96 with 180,000 miles I'm having to depress the

pedal slightly for the motor to run otherwise it will crank

and crank without it starting once it starts it idles and

runs fine. any ideas will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance. I did some searching but was not able to come up with this particular problem.

does it still crank for awhile even with the go pedal pressed down ? Does it run rough when it first starts or is it smooth right away. what's the idle rpm

Check that rubber fuel line that runs up to the injection pump (between the pump and the block). If it's wet with fuel, it's leaking and you're losing the prime of fuel..... that's what it sounds like. When my truck started doing that years ago, it wasn't even leaking enough to see dripping fuel.

First of all I really don't understand why it's considered a problem if it won't start without a little pedal. These relics are mechanical. There is no computer to deal with starting like every other vehicle. If it runs ok except for not starting without a little pedal don't worry about it. If that still is a bother set the idle up.

Ditto 46mech! Mine didn't show obvious leaks but got harder and harder to start. I put in the marine lines from LarryB and all is well.

My truck is doing the same thing and the whole drive side of the engine is wet with fuel and I see where its coming from between the injection pump an engine. what kind of fuel line do I need to fix it.

Email me at -- email address removed -- for my 12 valve fuel supply system write up, how it works and how to fix it.
