Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) starting trouble...

Not sure what's going on here, but I've been having trouble with the truck starting lately. Mostly if the truck is parked any way but level... I thought maybe it was sucking air somewhere, but when I work the primer, there seems to be fuel there immediately. Last night, I just coasted the truck across the lot until it was on the level, and it started right up.



Should the primer build pressure like they do on big rigs? Mine just seems to keep on pumping

There is a LOT of reading about starting problems in this forum. In your case the first thing I would check is the overflow valve.

I used to have starting trouble I've changed the overflow valve which helped, rubber fuel lines, lift pump, removed fuel heater, injectors, timing and headgasket. They all helped my starting. When you prime your lift pump you should hear the overflow valve working. If not it could be the valve or a bad lift pump. Do a search and start trouble shooting. Good Luck

You might drain a bit of fuel from the fuel filter into a cup and look for water or crud. May be nothing there but it is a quick and cheap check.

Genos sells the fuel pressure gauge all set up for the 12V There banjo bolt for the 12v mounts to the fuel filter canister. A real pain. Much easyer to drill/tap the fuel pressure banjo on the pump. Noing the pump pressures is a most. The big allen bolt that holds on the fuel heater was loose on my truck. causing a air leak. I believe people have lost prime with that short L shaped fuel hose comming off the lift pump (sucking air)
