Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) starts in second gear

I teach in a vocational school on long island shop project 1999 extended cab 4x4 24 valve automatic. Had a problem with Apps. We followed the procedure for recalibrating and it solved most of our problems. When at a full stop the truck does not shift down into first gear until we start to accelerate, then it drops to first gear. Has anyone had this problem and how did you solve it .

You might want to check the adjustment on the kickdown cable. Just a thought.

Governor pressure solenoid and sensor fixed mine. $200 dealer only parts plus trannie fluid & filter. Easy to change after trannie pan is off - bolts to valve body,

Is it something you can actually feel? First gear, the rear clutch, overrn clutch, the direct clutch, and the overrun sprag are used. Second they just add the front band.



Could it be when you pull up to the stoplight/sign that on the scan tool it appears as though it hasn't dropped down to 1st, but as soon as you apply throttle it downshifts?



My Truck has the Governor pressure sensor bad right now, it hangs first gear to 2700rpm most of the time.

Same with mine. You should be able to manually shift into first for start and then go back to drive for normal shifting after you're moving.

Samething here. Happened with the stocker. No problems with the GB trans.
