As the tag line says, I'm getting delayed gray smoke out of the tailpipe after I sit at idle for a minute, then when I take off I get a puff and it clears. I know that I am about a 1/2 quart overfilled from changing the oil the other day. I'm away from home, but will drain that out tomorrow. Other thoughts are a leaking seal on my HTT 62/12, valve guides, or worse. #@$%! Truck runs well but is taking a little longer than usual to cool down. Again pointing to the turbo. Anyone have these symptoms before?

So your thinking is an oil issue over a fuel/injector issue. You say you are a 1/2 quart overfilled . If you didn't over fill it I would think of an injector issue leaking and wash down your cylinder walls.

I just talked to HTT and he thought it was injector related since the smoke is gray instead of blue. I'm going to pick up some injector cleaner and see if that helps, then drain some oil when I get to the farm. Been looking for an excuse to do the injectors.

Just a quick update.

Replaced the air filter since the AFE cone drop in was pretty dirty, added a good dose of Stadyne? and a dash of 2 cycle oil, dumped some oil and the smoke went away. Now I'm back home with no additives in the tank and there is smoke at idle again. 50hp injectors are on order, no core required. Now I have 2 spare sets of cores. Planning ahead doesn't always work out.

Sounds more like an FCA issue than an injector issue to me considering all the additives you put in the tank. I could, and according to my wife usually am, be wrong.

I would be extremely causes of any one selling that does NOT require core returns, Their are at current 3 different styles of 3gen CR injectors. Bosch has now require bank returns on all new orders. We were getting SS Bodies for 4 months now ,the New order is back to steel bodies with SS internals that are style different then former design. I think Clay may post is experience with this type of issue. He just drop 6K with us to fix it. . also I have had such a demand for injector this week we are out of all SS bodies. Just a word of caution. .

The description sounds exactly like my truck, when my SPS62 went south. I lost the thrust bushing on the compressor side.

Pull the intake tube off your turbo and check for axial play in the turbo shaft, there should be zero. Radial play is acceptable, as long as it is not so excessive that it hits the housing. My axial play was about 1/16", just enough to allow oil too seep into the exhaust at idle, then excellerate and blow out a puff of blue/grey smoke.

II warrantied the turbo, but it did coat my exhaust, boost tube and innercooler with oil. There was no oil present on the output of my innercooler, I caught it before it got that saturated.

Good Luck, I hope it's not your turbo, or anything serious for that matter.

Which was the problem, the stainless steel? How can you tell the 3 styles apart? It'd be great to hear from Clay.

Thanks

By visual inspection, MY guess on the SS bodies is: Some aftermarket product increase the Pressure so now the bodies were NOT cracking but the Internals are getting destroyed... massive pressure is the only answer to cracked bodies.

The injectors I'm getting are supposed to be remans that are "as new" with 50 hp nozzles that have been matched and calibrated. My brief, but confusing, investigation showed that these are the closest to new that there are and, are in fact, sold as new by Mopar and Bosch. I hope that this is correct, but would like to know what the real story is if it is not.

I have a sneaking suspicion that there are more than one "real stories" though.

If the injectors are from Bosch thru a Bosch distibutor, one would hope the dealer would be, they are new even if the part # is listed as reman. Rebuilt injectors are a problem even for Bosch.

If these are NOT a Bosch reman, don't even bother. The odds of something failing and causing engine damage are too high.

Does Bosch do the new and remans for Mopar and just stamp Mopar's number on it? Can I decode the part number to figure out where it's been and what it is so-to-speak?

Dodge SHOULD be getting them directly from Bosch and repackaging.

As far as I have been able to find out out, Bosch itself does not do remans. Even the Bosch reman part # is actually a new injector. As long its directly from Bosch it should be a new injector irregardless of what the number indicates.

There are remans floating around out there, specifically from Mexico, that are as good as junk. Considering how easy it is to screw up a motor when an injector goes south putting anyhting other than new in there right now is a huge gamble.

Do they have "Made in Mexico" stamped on them for easy identification. I need some way to identify them because they will be here in the next day or so.

There is supposed to be either stamped on the injector or on the box something about Juarez Mexico as a source. If you see anything like that, be aware they might be inferior.
