Testing fuel pressure limiting valve

This is not my week for vehicles, so I am really running scared. My 1 year old Optima Red Tops were drained to less than 4 volts in 24 hours after it had ran fine. Looked for drains to no avail, but found that the alternator wire was cracked and worn through in a few places. I had three codes 0483, 0480, and 0602. Once I charged the batteries, I tried to engage the cooling fan by turning on the AC and it stuttered a few times but didn't really engage. New fan clutch will be here in a few days. I hate waiting to see if an issue resurfaces. Anyone ever have this happen?

No, the FCA is about $100 and just bolts to the back of the CP-3. It can get sticky and cause issues. A $100 if it fixes might be a "cheap" fix, eh? :)

Your modification logic is flawed. :) I agree that it would be a cheap fix, but at 136,000 miles, I have a feeling that the CP3 is a little loose. If it was newer, I would put in an Arson or Floorit kit with the FCA included for a few hundred more. I may have just talked myself into it now anyway. I have never had pressure problems, monitored via the Outlook. See how well that works. :D

Nah, unless you have had fuel problems, water etc. , I wouldn't worry too much about the pump being "loose". If it will hold rail pressure with a stock tune its good. The FCA is a little diferent as it does a lot of the moving and is more susceptible to issues. It could be worn and the rest of the pump be good.

Unless I saw hard starting problems or massive rail pressure drops I woul pu the kit in. I have almost 150k and would not hesistate to put an Arson kit in mine and feel confident.

I talked to Shawn at Wicked Diesel about my smoking issue and he said it sounded like injectors. Real nice guy, could have easily let me throw parts at it. I also asked about the new kit and he said the Avenger long stroke CP3 kit was out and had a few left. I don't think I need the extra flow for the $300, but it's a great option for the do-it-yourselfer.
