Recently I have noticed that when I start my 97 for the first time each day, there is a lag when starting... . like the starter makes a constant sound or something, and then kicks it over. The engine starts,ok, but there is a little delay.

Weird thing is that for the rest of the day, the truck starts fine. Only when it has been setting for several hours (overnight) does it do this.

Any ideas?

Your fuel hoses probably need replacing. They leak down over night so that the lift pump has to build up pressure before it will start. The rest of the day that is not the case.

There is a thread down the page - "Replace fuel lines" - that has the info you need for the proper line and lengths. While you are in there check the screen above the fuel filter.

I don't think that is it....

It is not like it is not getting fuel. I seems to be more starter related. Normally when starting, you get engine revolutions, then it starts. Same thing after changing a fuel filter. This is different. It is almost like it is not getting enough current to the starter. The engine doesn't want to make revolutions on the first startup of the day. I hope it is not a weak starter. I just had it rebuilt 5 months ago. The sound is more of a constant sound, instead of a cranking sound.

I know it sounds stupid, but you might want to check the battery connections for corrosion inside the post ends. You might be having a voltage problem due to corrosion that takes a good arc to get contact going first thing then re-corrodes over night. Since it only does it on the first start of the day and your starter is rebuilt, I don't see anything else that is obvious. Hope this helps. Let us know what you find.
