static messing with dash

Noticed over the last few weeks 3 times jumping in the truck and touch the auto gear lever static from my hand will cause every gauge on the dash to go full sweep for a few sec. than back to normal

This seems like it may be trouble in a lightning storm after warranty is up

You might try to bond (ground) your body to the truck body before touching the gear shift and see if this eliminates the problem. Suggest the lock mechanism on the door post. Static electricity is a real problem with all vehicles, severel years ago it was responsible for several fires when fueling and were mistakenly blamed on cell phones.

As a side note, the fires when fueling issue is a gasoline only issue, as diesel is not explosive and does not have fumes that will ignite with spark.

Its just that time of year, air gets dry and simply sliding in and out of the vehicle causes a build up. As stated, simply touch the metal of the door jamb before you close the door, should discharge the buildup.

Dieselnut 59 - - You are correct about gasoline vapors having a lower flash point than do middle distalites (diesel fuel) but the middle distalites produce far more static electricity than gasoline. You guys are also right that its the time of the year - - low humidity and low temps.

I think i will ground myself from now on when jumping in because this electronic (computer) dash is scareing me and my wallet.
