Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Statistical Study of Fuel Mileage with Fueling Box. Post your info. Please!

I am in a statistics class and need to put together a study. Well why not do it on something I love. Dodge Diesel Trucks. So here is the skinny. Here is the question I am trying to answer: How much and to what significance does a fueling box increase fuel economy? What i need from you guys is what kind of box you have and any INCREASE in economy. I only want increases because a decrease can almost always be contributed to a heavy right foot. Also guys, I beg you, dont let this turn into a war about fueling boxes and mileage. It has been done. If that is what you want to do dont ruin my survey. I am deliberately choosing to ignore other mods that trucks might have. I am well aware that exhaust, injectors, air intakes, and other things can affect fuel mileage, I am ignoring this. So if i could just get >25 of you to post what change you saw after installing a fueling box that would be great.

I installed and ran a VA for over 25K miles with a gain of nearly 2 mpg. I removed it and put an EZ on and did not gain fuel economy, I ran it for about 15K miles. I bought another VA and installed it, I have had this one on know for about 40K miles and am at +1. 5 mpg over running without it. Mods have changed since the first VA I had so the difference does not surprise me.

I installed a VA and noticed no effect on my mpg. Sure like the additional power however.

I installed an edge comp and saw a 1. 5 mpg increase and now i have a tst comp with about another . 5 mpg increase,so overall i have seen a 2. 0 mpg increase between the two boxes.

Since I put on an EZ, towing(7k) mileage increased from 12 to 16 on the lowest setting,have no info on mileage unloaded.

I hated stat class, so heres info because it will make you study harder. VA added and milage went up about 1. 5 mpg. Checked this to verify by milage per tank over a few month period. I heard that the computer would be thrown off, although it came within a few tenths of my caculation.

We tow a 12'4" tall (lots of wind resistance), 13,500 lb 5th wheel that puts us at 21,180 lbs GCW (21,500 GCWR). Towing in mixed flat/hilly terrain at 70 MPH, we went from 10. 0 MPG stock to 10. 5 MPG with the Edge EZ. The mileage increase was a fringe benefit compared to the fattened mid-range torque that really improved towing performance.

Too many variables to be accurate........

On my 3500 with a utility bed I gained 1. 5 MPG with an EZ. On the 02 it was nothing. I firmly believe it helps the heaver or loaded trucks more.



Factors to consider:



2X or 4X, QC or Regular Cab, 3500 or 2500, Weight, Tire size and inflation, loaded or not, gearing, etc.

I mostly drive empty, and with a PE Comp, I gained about 1 mpg overall average no matter how I drive. I usually run it on 2x5.



Truck is an '01 QC SB 4x4 5spd 3. 55 gears with about 250 lbs of aftermarket bumpers and 295/75/16 tires, all of which affect mileage.
