I have a question about the useage about staynadine in the summer months. I though I read information that it was not necessary to use in summer months. However, I have noticed a slight loss of power and decreased fuel milage (the last month or so or maybe it was more mental).

On my last tank of fuel I decided to add some staynadine again and my fuel milage is back up and the power restored. So my question is, with summer fuel (flying J) I though a fuel additive was not needed?

A fuel additive is never really needed (unless in arctic conditions), but IMO it should always be used, even in the summer months. The Stanadyne is still a very effective additive in the warmer months, increased lubricity, injector cleaner, cetane improver, ect... The only thing that doesn't apply in summer months is the ability for it to keep the fuel from gelling. The number one reason to use a fuel additive IMO is increased lubricity, and this is a 24/7/365 thing.

FWIW - I ran a few tanks with no additive recently, ran out and forgot to order more, and I too think MPG's were affected.

Try Premium Fuel!

Frank:

You might try so Premium Diesel (Amoco Premier or Cenex Roadmaster XL). The good stuff should be 50 cetane with automotive additives. Should be 2 - 4 cents more per gallon. I believe it makes a difference. I run only the Cenex Roadmaster and add the Stanadyne in the Winter. Have not ran a #1 in the last four winters or 140K miles.

You can also use Stanadyne Junior. It is cheaper than the Performance. It does not have the anti-gel properties that you would need in the winter temps, but it hasd everything else.

Where do I get Stanadyne? I have looked at the truck stops here and I cant find it. All they have is Howes and one called Powers Service.

Sky, Power Service can be purchased very inexpensively at Wal-Mart and Stanadyne products can be purchased from Diesel Injection Service (D. I. S. ). They can be reached at: 1-800-658-9355 or www.dieselpage.com

Sky... .

Stanadyne is also sometimes carried by farm implement dealers. I've seen it at John Deere in the past, but I think they are now relabeling under their name. Not sure if it's the real deal.

The Performance Formula Jr also does not have the Cetane boost. I used the PF Jr in the past but switch to the full Performance Formula. I also buy mine through DIS (most of the time).

Sky, Power Service is very good. Who makes the best will only start a flame war:D:D But the Power Service is the the #1 additive as far as puchases go. Can be bought at Walmart for $9. 95 a gallon... ... ..... Pete
