My Dad took his y2k dodge into the stealer for what should have been a Warantee issue and ended up getting charged $300 to have the oil pressure sending unit replaced. I know it is a bit late, but is there anything that can be done to get his money back? The truck has less than 60K on the clock.

I would think anything attached to the engine would be covered under the 100,000 mile engine warranty. Let's see, I think the oil pressure sending unit is still attached to the engine...

Well first I would try the Regional Rep for DC and explain the problem and the fact that the Dealer charged for Warranty work.

If no help comes from that - then try the Washington Better Business Bureau or even better the Washington Attorney General's Office (Consumer Protection Div). Nothing scares a Dealer more than the Attorney General's Office asking questions.

If you write a letter - make it professional and polite - you get more action with Honey. .

I think the best place to start would be the 2000 Ram Pickup Warranty Information Booklet. I think you will need to find something within the covers of this book to support your position. Here is the part of the booklet that mentions the Cummins engine warranty:

2. 6 Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warranty

A. When It Begins If your truck is equipped with a Cummins Diesel Engine, the Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warranty begins at the end of the 3/36 Basic Warranty period, and covers the cost of repairing those parts of your truck engine listed that are defective in materials, workmanship, or factory preparation.

B. Parts Covered for 5 Years or 100,000 Miles. In trucks equipped with a Cummins Diesel Engine, ONLY the following engine parts and components are covered for 5 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first:

· cylinder block and all internal parts

· cylinder head assemblies

· core plugs fuel injection pump & injectors

· gaskets and seals for listed components

· intake and exhaust manifold

· oilpan

· oilpump

· timing gear drive belts and/or chains and cover

· turbocharger housing and internal parts

· valve covers

· water pump and housing

I don't see how you can argue that the oil pressure sending unit is covered.

The 2000 Ram Pickup Warranty Information Booklet also details other warranties: corrosion, noise emission, and emission performance.

Good luck in finding something that includes the oil pressure sending unit.

Rip off

The oil sending unit must cost $230 if they charged one hour to screw it after lubing the O ring and attaching the wire harness and starting the eng to see if indicator shows oil psi shuting down eng . Thats five star ////////// Ron in LOUISVILLE KY :--)

I just picked up an oil sending unit from Cummins for my '02 for $7. 56 - that included tax... took me about 12 minutes to R&R it - that includes the 7 minute phone call I got in the middle of the operation...

Usually electronic components/sensors are not covered under warranty.

Especially if they have nothing do with running the engine or emission control.

But the price you paid is outrageous. Call cumins/dodge dealers and individual shops to find out prices. Then take the qoutes to the dealer.
