A buddy of mine has an '03 2500 QC 4wd. He developed a crack in the steering box. I have not had a chance to see the truck, so I don't know where on the box the crack is. The dealer verified it's the box and not a line(top notch dealer - 15 years experiance with him and never a problem). Anyone else experiance a cracked steering box on a third generation truck?

Nope never seen a cracked one... but have had mine replaced 3 times due to slack in the wheel.....

P. S. HFD rules... ... ... class 1 ISO... ... ... agressive interior attack... ...

I had mine replaced at 8K... . it started to have a stiff feel to the wheel and would not return to center after a steering movement. I did not have a leak though, so i don't know if it had a crack.

The dealer also replaced the PS pump. Its fine now but there is obviously a problem with the 4wd steering box.

Friend of mine has a 3rd gen 3500 6x6, with 30K something miles. I changed his oil an filter a couple weeks ago to Amsoil 15W40 and the SDF80 filter. While I was under there I noticed dampness near the steering box but didn't know about the problems that seem to be cropping up. He took his truck in to get the Goodyear tires replaced due to sidewall cracking, and mentioned the leak to the service manager. It turns out that his steering box was cracked! It was replaced under warranty, as were the tires.
