Does anyone know if the quick ratio steering boxes in the 3rd gen, trucks will fit 2nd gen, ? The 3rd gen drive real sweet responsive and tight feeling.

Good question! Would be really nice if it fit. My guess is it is probably different since the frames are different - but who knows. Maybe a quick "adapter" bracket and it would be golden.

steerng box?

Gentleman: If i`m thinking correctly, the steering on the 3rd. gen is rack and pinion. , which totally a different animal than the setup on the 2nd. gen. ?

The 3rd. gen 4x4 uses the same box as the 2nd gen. ? (Saginaw box on both, but is it the same?)

The 3rd. gen 2wd. 's use the rack and pinion as do the light duty 1500-2500 2x4 and 4x4.

The 3rd. gen 2500/3500 (4x4) hd's use the Saginaw box aforementioned. Its looks the same as the second gen (in the 2003/04 FSM), but I haven't pulled one to check for identical replacement etc.

Maybe call a dealer with a 2nd gen VIN and a 3rd. gen VIN to see if the number for the gear box superceeds to the same part #.

Good luck

2 wheel drive uses rack and pinion, 4x4 uses standard recirculating steering . I remember reading that it was improved ,with the quickest steering in the industry. When I drove one for the first time that was the first thing I noticed. It might be made by Saginaw?

rackand pinion

:p AT least I was half right. I knew the 3rd. gen`s somewhere down the line had R&P. I forget to think outside the box,as I have a 2whl dr. and don`t think that most everybody else has 4 whl dr. -no need for it myself nana -nana - boo boo!
