My box is leaking bad at the pitman shaft. I dont want to reseal it since their is no guarantee on it leaking again. Box has 165k miles on it so its time for a replacement. I called Autozone and they got a 7500gvwr or 8800gvwr Cardone rebuilt steering box. My truck is the 7500... However, im gonna run a reunel bumper and winch so I'm thinking the 8800 box might be a good thing. What are the differences and will the 8800 box fit on mine?

Auto and 5-speed seem to be the only diff in your sigs, gear ratios? The 96's had different rear axles for manual/autos also, didn't it? You'd think the manual would have the higher GVWR...

I second what LHallmark says. Check your GVW. Your truck should be an 8800. I didn't think they put the Cummins in a 7500 GVW truck.

Erik, I talked with Sam Pederson, the TDR Brake GURU, anyway a phone conversation him and I had a while back with his advice telling me to steer away from A-1 Cardone parts. He stated the quality of their rebuilds is not very good. His advice was to buy OEM or a good American company. At the time he gave me some names of companies but I can not remember.

Just my $. 02 worth.

If you want to give him a call let me know I have his number.

Let me double check this. I thought i read it was 7500 but i might be wrong. I do have dana 80/60 combo 5spd however no snowplow package or HD Tcase..... Only reason i like the cardone part is becuase autozone offers a lifetime warranty on it, no questions asked... . What other options do i have for boxes that are not way to expensive? BTW im running a winch with reunel bumper of the front so extra weight might wear out a box quicker!

I'd be tempted to try the new PSC Box.

From a thread a few days ago:

"Try these guys www.pscpowersteer.com . Click on off road components, then power steering gears. A Dodge steering box with 16-13:1 ratio is $240. 00. Quite a few people on www.pavementsucks.com web-site have been buying them and have been giving them the thumbs up. They are supposed to be a heavy duty steering box. "
