It 'appears' to be a steering box leak, not down on any other fluid, and the underside of the motor is now coated in the front. (Overflow bottle no longer resides in the front so that is not it... ... ... ... . ) Is there a 'typical' steering box leak (shaft seal) that may be the culprit?

Any info would be appreciated.

Vacuum pump seal?

Could it be your vacuum pump seal leaking as PS pump mount right on top of it. Mine's leaking engine oil there and at first I thought I had a PS fluid leak.

Seals need replaced, not the entire pump like some dealers say.

If your not sure do a search on the subject.

Talked to Rip today, he too thought it might be the vacuum pump - should be able to fix it with a reseal kit.

Oo.

My steering box had a pretty good leak at the pitman shaft seal... dripped right off the pitman arm.

HTH,

Ben

Not sure if it's the same exact steering box as on the 98. 5's, but mine began leaking within a few months of delivery when new and it was replaced under warrantee at the dealer with no questions asked. I can't remember exactly where it was leaking, but the dealer had heard of it and replaced it no problem.
