Has anyone replaced the stub shaft seal on a steering box? What is the trick to removing and replacing the seal? Any lessons learned would be appreciated. I've had the box off and made all the adjustments.
My only advice is that you have some good air tools around...
A 1/2" impact gun will really help in taking the nut off the pitman shaft...
Make sure you use a really beefy pitman arm puller - I've seen more than one lesser quality pullers ruined while attempting this job.
Other than having good tools - the job is very straight forward. You might want to look into installing a DSS to eliminate the pitman shaft movement that ate up the seal in the first place. Here's a good vendor website that explains the whole shebang: http://www.protintnw.com/steeringsuspension.htm
