Hello,

I just recently purchased a used 1996 RAM 2500 PU and joined the group. The truck is great and I love the Banks Turbo. My question is the steering box has 2 to 3 inches of play at the steering wheel. Is there an adjustment in the box? If I have to replace the box what am I looking at?

You can jack the front axle up off the ground with the wheels in the straight forward position & steering wheel locked. Then on the top of the steering gear box there is a allen bolt with a lock nut. Loosen the nut & turn the bolt till it bottoms out... . then back it off a 1/2 turn. Retighten the lock nut while holding the allen bolt making sure it doesn't turn. Then turn your steering wheel from lock to lock left/right... . if you feel any binding or roughness in the wheel... . you have the adjustment too tight.

if the adjustment doesn't tighten it up enough for you and you end up replacing the gear box, invest in a DSS steering stabilizer, the best insurance you can buy for the longevity of your new steering box.
